5 Things Teresa taught me from Queen of South
When I saw the first pilot preview for this show I knew it was something I would be interested in. I have never read the book, but the previews had me intrigued to want to watch more. After my second or third episode I had my husband hooked on the show too. For those of us who are not familiar with Queen of the South, this show is about a young lady that got caught up in the cocaine world by her boyfriend and built her own cocaine empire. To make a long story short she was a worker of a cocaine boss, knew what she brought to the table, didn’t want to go to jail on someone else’s dream and built her own empire.
In Queen of the South Teresa ALWAYS listens to her INNER BOSS, her INTUITION, her GUT, or whatever you want to call it. A lot of us don’t do that because our mind is clouded by social media judgement, what others may think, past failures, and what ifs.
I am not in any way condoning distribution of drugs, or cocaine but I LOVE THE BOSS moves she takes as a woman to build her empire.
1st Lesson- TRUST THE INNER BOSS IN YOU!!!
Teresa has some very powerful men in her camp who has her best interest at heat. They have her back 1000 as the kids say but 80% or make it even 90% of the time she doesn’t listen to them. The boss Teresa appears always at the right time to give her the best advice. This definitely taught me to trust myself more. Everyone’s opinion doesn’t fit what you need at the moment. Sometimes we ask for help from people bound to the same chain as us.
LESSON #2 Regardless of what you have been through or currently experiencing you still have the opportunity to be UNSTOPPABLE.
A lot of us have been through and still going through some really hard stuff. It could be financially, emotionally, relationships, family, marriages, children, incarceration, or whatever it is I am sure its PAINFUL. Sometimes we do not know how to carry on with life with those scars we put a band aid on them and keep on. We allow it hinder us and hold us back from being a leader and a boss. In Queen of the South Teresa talks about her father, growing up in Mexico, and when her boyfriend died it hurt her badly. It was not easy for her to bounce back when he passed away. She had just got him back in her life, he was only alive because of her, and then for him to get killed because of her.
Not to compare any of your hardships to a television show but we have to learn how to heal, bounce back, and allow those situations to propel us, and not hinder us to fulfilling our purpose. It’s okay to cry, be hurt, scream, or be emotional because we are human but do not stay there forever!!!
LESSON #3 Don’t be afraid to think outside the box even when the people close to you tell you that you are crazy!!
Teresa was introduced to laundering her drug money through cryptocurrency. She left the bank and the drug dealer who introduced it to her bought a winery and sold her drugs on the black market. Her 2 right hand men repeatedly told her a lot of her decisions were wrong and she should think about it, but she did it anyway. They probably knew more about the drug world than her but she didn’t allow that to stop her she did what she thought was best for her business. Don’t limit your opportunities based on someones limited beliefs.
LESSON #4-When people tell you NO; Keep Going
Teresa decided to move her drugs into a new territory, and trying to distribute on someone else’s territory was a challenge. If there is a will there is a way. One thing she did that is very valuable in building a business is RELATIONSHIP BUILDING. When you need something from someone or trying to get a sale and you know it won’t be easy start by building a relationship first, and see how you can add value to what they have. This has helped me tremendously in building my businesses.
LESSON #5-While being a boss continue to show compassion to others
Teresa risked her life multiple times trying to help a lady get out of an abusive marriage, and risked a great business relationship to save some ladies that were caught in sex trafficking. She always shows compassion to those around her and give them the benefit of the doubt even when their loyalty to her is questionable. I know sometimes it can be hard but showing compassion is a very good asset to have especially as a woman in business. Teresa understood what it felt like to be held as a slave. She was willing to risk it all to save them. Sometimes showing compassion can be hard especially when we think someone does not deserve it but you never know what someone is going through or maybe the shoe just might be on the other foot one day.
Take a moment to imagine for a few weeks if you didn’t listen to anyone but God and your inner self what your life would be like. What would happen to your business, your brand, your life, your marriage, or maybe even your career? Don’t say I have lost my inner self because trust me she is in there she is waiting for you to stop posting all of your business on social media, listening to your friends first, afraid to take a chance, or worried what people will say.
